Subject: Trouble with Drivers for Windows 7

Hi Guys,

I got a newer computer with windows 7 so i could run 4.34e and tried for hours to get the drivers right but windows is not accepting them. Says it cannot verify the digital signature. I downloaded some other drivers from the dynomotion website that had the digital signature (probably same ones i already had with 4.34e) but still no luck.

Only way i could get it to run was hitting f8 on startup and disabling the digital signiture requirement. But i have to do this every time i start now which is a pain. Any suggestions?

Been there, had that problem!

(2nd post from the very bottom of the second page if the link doesn't quite take you to the correct post)

There is a bit info in some of the earlier posts, but that's what ultimately solved the problem for me. The strange thing is, I've installed the old drivers on Windows 7 computers with no issues, yet some just don't seem to want to accept them.

Hi Moray,

Thanks for the help. Unfortunatly i tried this tonight over and over again every possible different combination of ways and no luck. I tried 4.33, 4.34a and 4.34e drivers. I tried updating, reinstalling, etc .I must have uninstalled and reinstalled a dozen times. A couple of times it actually said it installed and asked me to restart for change to take effect, but it shows error in device mananger and wont connect unless i start with f8 and disable driver signature.

Is there a way to permenantly disable driver signature requirement with windows 7? I searched for this and mostly found how to do it with windows 8. Thanks.

I'm not sure if there is a way to permanently disable driver signing in Win7.

Has windows been updated?
Some installs of Win 7 just don't seem to like to install the drivers. The desktop I got that resulted in me posting in that thread, I think I ended up making a list of all the files for the driver, uninstalling the driver, manually deleting all the files, restarting, and then double checking the files had been deleted.
I then plugged in the KFlop and had to manually select the folder with the latest drivers. If I didn't manually select the folder, it always wanted to install unsigned drivers that wouldn't work.

However, the last desktop I got (another Win 7 Pro 64bit), it installed the drivers without any problems, other than the usual message saying they were unsigned. Even my laptop installed fine.
The only thing I can think of with both, is that windows updates were the latest prior to installing.

Yeah the different updates might explain it. This is a computer i bought used this past weekend for $40. It was wiped clean before i bought it and runs surprisingly fast. But i dont know the history of updates and its not connected to internet to check for the latest. Should i try and connect it and check for latest windows updates?

I didnt actually go into windows explorer and manually delete files, i just selected the box to delete drivers. I will double check that each file is deleted the next time i get a free minute. So my best shot is to use the drivers included with 4.34e right?

The last couple desktops I've bought have been 2nd hand, with a fresh install of windows.
One thing I did discover with the latest one, which refused to detect new updates, was WSUSoffline - http://www.wsusoffline.net/

Download the ZIP, extract it, then run the main download app in the root folder. Select what versions of windows you'd like to download updates for, and leave it to do it's thing. Once finished, copy the entire directory to a memory stick (I think there are options to create CDs/DVDs), open it on the computer you'd like to update, and run the update app in the client folder.

It then checks the system, and installs what updates are needed, without having to connect the computer to the internet. You may have to restart a few times, but the installer tells you if it's completely finished, or if you need to restart the computer and re-run the installer.

I think there could also be an option to check the target computer for what updates it needs, and only then download those updates, but I went for the simple option.

Hi Moray,

Thanks for the link! My next move was to do updates and i didnt want to move the computer and I was thinking i would need to stretch a cable across the shop to do it. This will be much easier.

I tried messing with drivers again tonight, i checked to make sure each individual driver file was actually deleted (none of them were) and then re-installing two versions of 4.34 drivers and also 4.33 drivers but nothing works except f8 on startup. So i guess windows update is my next thing to try. Hope it works, i will let you guys know the result. Might be a day or so before i get at it again. Thanks.

Hi Mark,

I thought earlier you mentioned trying V4.34e Drivers.  But now you mention V4.33 and V4.34 (Signed Drivers only link).  Neither of those should work.

V4.33 Drivers are not signed and will not work without disabling Signed driver enforcement.

V4.34 Drivers are signed but seem to work fine with everything except some versions of W7

V4.34a - V4.34e are signed, the same, and have been modified and normally work also with W7 (although there still is one red warning that we haven't been able to remove however saying to go ahead they load fine).

Good luck :)

Hi Tom/Moray,

I tried updating windows with the offline update thing in the link and the updates went fine but still no luck with drivers.

When installing 4.34e drivers i get the red warning and sometimes it gives me another error about digital signature and a few times it said installed successfully and needs to restart, but after i restart i have a warning in the device manager and kflop wont connect. Still having to use F8 each time on start up.

Should i connect computer to network and let the real windows update run next?

Hi Mark,

That sounds like a reasonable next step.  There might be something wrong with your chain of trust on that system.   I Googled and found this:

Signing Microsoft Windows 64-bit Kernel-Mode drivers

If your certificate uses SHA-2 or has SHA-2 certificates in its chain of trust and you are using it to sign kernel modules, then you should be aware of KB3033929, an update for Windows 7 distributed through Windows Update. On versions of Windows 7 without this update, the kernel will reject signatures made with certificates that use SHA-2, so they cannot be used to get a kernel module to load.

Here is a link for that but probably better to just let Windows Update do it if possible:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46148

I think Systeminfo from a cmd prompt might display hot fixes installed

Hi guys, great news i finally got it to work properly! It was related to the windows updates.

I connected my machine to the internet but it didnt seem to want to update on its own, it was stuck checking for updates for hours but wouldnt go any further. After doing some searching online i found someone suggesting to install update 3020369 and then 3125574, these files are available to download from the microsoft update catalog. Service pack 1 needs to be already installed, and again this is for windows 7. The second file is a bunch of updates all in one file to update a fresh install of windows 7. You need to download these files and disconnect from the internet before installing.

After installing these updates, i deleted the Kflop drivers and reinstalled the ones that came with 4.34e. I got the red warning, clicked ok and it installed properly and now connects to Kflop right away. No warning in the device manager now either. Thanks again.
